To arrive, you have to cross a wide road. Wide only in relation to all other narrow roads here. The tall green gates with sharp points are like open arms - hospitable only during hours of operation - an entrance wide enough for a car or two, but predominantly meant for pedestrians. The rare automobiles that pass are mostly trucks with trimmings and tools. The vegetation and bird songs insulate and drown out much of the traffic sounds. The urge is to find something, but, in fact, the aim is to get lost. Past the small white chapel surrounded with wild disheveled banana palms, past the generic bronze figure, through the gravel path, past the greenhouse and the small pond, past the massive tree roots and purple flowers - still not looking for anything.
study for a garden is a catalyst, an audio piece that guides the viewer to (re)visit the space of a garden, in this case - Jardim José do Canto in Ponta Delgada.
