Sofia Caetano, visual artist, was born in 1987 in the Azores. She graduated in Fine Arts - Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. She completed a Master of Fine Arts in Media Art at Emerson College in Boston, USA, where she later taught. Her work explores the space between the two-dimensionality of the film/video screen and the three-dimensionality of its relationship with installation and the visual arts. She investigates comedy, interaction with the viewer and the toxicity of the contemporary world. Her work has been shown in the United States, Japan, Mexico, Turkey, Greece, Switzerland, Spain and Portugal. Sofia is co-director of Spectacular House, an audiovisual production company, and QUIMERA, a multimedia installation on a lava flow trail. She has curated the GATE gallery and is the executive and artistic director of the Azorean International Film Festival.
